Several pointed to the lifestyle benefits compared with their peers: \u201cOsborne Clarke has a much better work-life balance compared to what I hear from trainees in other firms. We finish at far more reasonable hours than any other trainee I know.\u201d Another added, \u201ca lot less hours, but the quality of work is on par.\u201d For most, the balance of quality and culture is a winning combination. When asked about the best thing at Osborne Clarke, the answers are unanimous: \u201cThe people,\u201d \u201cthe environment,\u201d and \u201cteam environment and friendliness of senior team members.\u201d Others highlighted \u201chigh quality work which does not prejudice the relaxed atmosphere\u201d and \u201cthe opportunity to stand out and be entrepreneurial despite the size of the firm.\u201d On the flip side, frustrations include \u201csalary \u2018bunching\u2019 after NQ level and unclear promotions system,\u201d concerns about \u201cqualification prospects,\u201d and more day-to-day issues such as \u201cadmin, which can be frustrating at times\u201d or \u201cno canteen in Reading.\u201d Highlights of the training contract include \u201cbeing trusted with workstreams on a complex transaction,\u201d \u201cclient interactions and recognition from superiors,\u201d and the sense of growth: \u201cfeeling myself improve my skillset since the beginning.\u201d Not all moments are easy, however, with some citing \u201cmistakes made early in a seat\u201d or \u201chaving to complete my SQE2 while working full time\u201d as their toughest experiences. Hybrid working operates under a \u201cmore often than not\u201d approach, which trainees find \u201creasonable and proportionate\u201d and \u201cvery accommodating to issues and possible disruptions.\u201d Many value the flexibility, even if bonus eligibility linked to office attendance raised eyebrows. CSR and pro bono are thriving at Osborne Clarke, with opportunities described as \u201cexcellent \u2013 lots of opportunities for exciting work\u201d and it is \u201ceasy to get involved in interesting pro bono projects.\u201d From legal workshops in schools to charity fundraising and mentoring, trainees find plenty of ways to make an impact beyond client work.
