The firm will ask trainees what work they are interested in and provide opportunities that reflect their interests\u2019, \u2018people and being ranked in all firm practice areas\u2019, \u2018the culture is excellent. Everyone is approachable and supportive and has a genuine interest in our development\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worst thing about the firm?<\/strong> \u2018The IT could be improved, but I understand that the firm has been implementing changes to make its systems more efficient\u2019, \u2018the hours can sometimes be somewhat excessive for the corporate department but this comes in waves and is limited solely to that particular field\u2019, \u2018I suppose I wish they had more departments or secondment opportunities (for the purposes of my training)\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best moment?<\/strong> \u2018Successfully leading a client call for the first time\u2019, \u2018being given the opportunity to take a lead role in running a share subscription deal which involved drafting and negotiating core documents\u2019, \u2018assisting on a big VC deal where I was trusted to draft core documents and received very high praise from the associate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worst moment?<\/strong> \u2018Misunderstanding instructions and trying to be proactive in the wrong way which resulted in tension with an associate for weeks afterwards\u2019, \u2018making mistakes, that, in hindsight, I could have avoided\u2019<\/p>\n<\/p>\n                \n               \n      <h2 class=\"tab-listing\" id=\"verdict\">The Lex 100 verdict on <span class=\"highlight-firm\">Marriott Harrison<\/span><\/h2>\n       \n        \n      \n             \n        <p>    \n\t<p>With a standout reputation in venture capital and M&amp;A, Marriott Harrison offers a training contract built around early responsibility, meaningful client contact and a genuinely supportive culture. The firm\u2019s \u201cstrong VC practice and small trainee intake\u201d mean that \u201ctrainees take on significant responsibility at an early stage\u201d and often enjoy \u201cmore client contact and hands-on experience than one might expect in larger firms.\u201d One respondent summed it up: \u201cI feel like this is exactly what I have been getting, and I am very happy with it as a result.\u201d Corporate work dominates the experience \u2013 and for those who want it, that\u2019s a huge plus. One trainee said: \u201cI was very vocal about my interest in VC at the start of my training contract and was provided with an opportunity to draft a term sheet and work directly with a partner on a VC investment during my second week.\u201d Another recalled \u201cbeing given the opportunity to take a lead role in running a share subscription deal\u201d while a third described working closely with a partner on a distressed company acquisition in their first seat. \u201cRather than feeling like we are competing against each other,\u201d noted one trainee, \u201cthe trainees at Marriott Harrison are also all extremely supportive of each other.\u201d The firm\u2019s culture is frequently described as \u201cclose-knit,\u201d with praise for approachability, mentoring, and the lack of hierarchy. \u201cPeople take the work seriously, but not themselves,\u201d said one trainee: \u201cIt is great to learn from people that are both pleasant to be around and happy to teach.\u201d While the hours can be \u201csomewhat excessive in the corporate department,\u201d this \u201ccomes in waves\u201d and is often accepted as part of the high-level work on offer. The flip side is that \u201csocialising\/events can be minimal\u201d \u2013 a trade-off not everyone minds. The hybrid-working policy gets a thumbs up. \u201cThere is no procedure to request working from home \u2013 we are trusted to regulate our own time,\u201d said one trainee. Most report being in the office around three days a week. CSR opportunities are \u201cplentiful\u201d and \u201cgrassroots,\u201d ranging from charity partnerships to firm-wide initiatives like card-writing with Age UK. While there is \u201ccurrently no pro bono work,\u201d trainees feel encouraged to participate in CSR and can even join the committee. Client secondments are available too \u2013 one trainee shared a \u201cgreat experience\u201d with a VC firm, gaining exposure to corporate and commercial matters while being supported by the client\u2019s in-house team.
