With its \u201cgreat reputation within the creative\/media sectors\u201d and particular strength in employment law, the firm wins praise for its \u201cexciting client-base,\u201d \u201cinclusive atmosphere,\u201d and \u201ccommitment to keeping up to date with developments in tech and the law.\u201d One trainee explained: \u201cI would be able to do seats in the areas I am interested in, without having to do anything like finance or corporate&#8230; there are no mandatory seat options.\u201d This freedom, combined with \u201ca small trainee cohort\u201d and \u201ca personalised training contract,\u201d helps create a training experience that aligns closely with individual interests. Trainees spoke highly of the \u201cexcellent work\/life balance\u201d and \u201cgenuinely flexible\u201d hybrid-working policy \u2013 often cited as a key differentiator from other firms. While pay was described as \u201cnot competitive compared to similar firms in the market,\u201d especially in Belfast, many felt this was offset by a \u201cnicer working environment\u201d and \u201ca culture where people genuinely care and want you to succeed.\u201d There&#8217;s a sense of fairness too: \u201cpoor conduct is held to account,\u201d and graduate recruitment was singled out for going \u201cthe extra mile\u201d to accommodate seat and qualification preferences. Standout moments included secondments to clients in the video games and music industries, receiving direct mentoring from senior partners, and taking the lead on matters early; one trainee described \u201cbeing on a solo call with a client and getting the work\u201d. Whilst \u201cseat rotation can be a bit of an adjustment, the firm does their best to make it as smooth as possible.\u201d That said, a few flagged \u201cquiet periods\u201d and \u201crepetitive tasks\u201d in some teams, and there was mention of occasional uncertainty around qualification. On the pro bono and CSR front, Lewis Silkin earns high marks for social mobility initiatives and variety of opportunities. \u201cI helped run the Employment law pro bono clinic,\u201d said one respondent, with another commenting: \u201cI\u2019m also part of the mentoring scheme, the schools outreach programme, and I play an active role in the Gender Group.\u201d While some noted that pro bono is \u201cstronger in employment than elsewhere,\u201d the broader picture is one of active involvement and firm-wide support.
