As one recalls, \u201cI got my offer in my first year of university as I did the SPARK scheme\u2026 Clifford Chance was well-known for having one of the top-quality training contracts which I thought would be a great springboard for my career and open up pretty much every door.\u201d Others emphasised the \u201ccutting-edge work\u201d, \u201cprestige\u201d, and the firm\u2019s visible \u201cdiversity initiatives, specifically in the trans-rights space.\u201d On the training itself, Clifford Chance is often compared directly to its Magic Circle and US rivals. Most describe it as \u201cpretty on par\u201d, though some highlight \u201cmore consistent and structured\u201d support, with technology and resources setting the firm apart. One notes: \u201cIn comparison to my Silver Circle friends, we are more involved in deals, we receive comprehensive training, and we have the best tech to help us succeed. I couldn\u2019t really ask for more.\u201d The culture is another strong theme. Almost every respondent pointed to \u201cthe people\u201d as the best aspect of the firm, alongside strong internal support teams across Newcastle, Delhi and London. The hybrid policy also wins plaudits: \u201cGreat! I prefer working in the office but 50% in the office gives people flexibility.\u201d That said, life at Clifford Chance is demanding. Long hours are a reality: \u201cWorking for 52 hours straight\u201d and \u201cfour all-nighters back-to-back\u201d were among the low points trainees shared. Several also raised concerns around workflow management being inconsistent across teams, leading to uneven work allocation and missed learning opportunities. But the highs are significant: \u201cClosing a \u00a34.4 billion debt financing after months of long nights\u201d, \u201cworking on a large corporate reorganisation with a real team spirit\u201d, and \u201cbeing rewarded with a bespoke secondment to one of our international offices\u201d all stand out.
