The firm is different from its competitors in that it offers the genuine chance to work alongside people who really want to make a difference and use the law to help improve lives, communities and society\u2019, \u2018the firm&#8217;s approachability, especially coming into a brand-new environment after a law degree\/LPC. It was important to train at a firm where I felt respected and comfortable to approach people around me whilst also being given high quality work\u2019, \u2018great culture and charitable firm\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best thing about the firm?<\/strong> \u2018The valuing of all people &#8211; regardless of status or experience. There is no hierarchy but a sense of team\u2019, \u2018the people\u2019, \u2018diversity inclusion and support\u2019, \u2018it is definitely the people. Everyone at AC is friendly and approachable and willing to listen and answer any questions you have. Everyone treats each other equally and it is a very non-hierarchical place to work\u2019, \u2018the social purpose and the culture\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worst thing about the firm?<\/strong> \u2018The salary\u2019, \u2018as the firm is expanding, it seems that work-life balance is having an impact especially on those employees who are in the mid-senior positions such as associates and senior associates\u2019, \u2018the remuneration at higher levels (i.e. associate and senior associate). The marketing materials don&#8217;t reflect the professionalism of the firm\u2019, \u2018the work from home policy requires first year trainees to be in the office four days a week\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best moment?<\/strong> \u2018Building relationships with my fellow colleagues\/trainees and participating in internal events to better my personal and professional development\u2019, \u2018partners recognising my effort on work and going out of their way to give me positive feedback and make sure that I am empowered to take the initiatives on tasks\u2019, \u2018going on a site visit to some supported housing accommodation\u2019, \u2018having a document I drafted agreed on the first attempt&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worst moment?<\/strong> \u2018Getting a seat that I didn&#8217;t really and want and struggling to adapt to the work and team\u2019, \u2018staying until 9:30 p.m. to work on a document\u2019, \u2018issues in relation to seats &#8211; there is a lack of communication and openness which I think is important when it comes to seats\/practice areas\u2019, \u2018I would say that the anxiety amongst the trainee cohort about NQ positions is more of a negative experience\u2019<\/p>\n<\/p>\n                \n               \n      <h2 class=\"tab-listing\" id=\"verdict\">The Lex 100 verdict on <span class=\"highlight-firm\">Anthony Collins<\/span><\/h2>\n       \n        \n      \n             \n        <p>    \n\t<p>Trainees at Anthony Collins Solicitors (ACS) were united in their reasons for choosing the firm: \u201csocial purpose,\u201d \u201cgreat culture,\u201d and a \u201cgenuine chance to work alongside people who really want to make a difference.\u201d The firm&#8217;s values \u201caren\u2019t just for show\u201d \u2014 trainees repeatedly commented on how ACS\u2019s mission to \u201cimprove lives, communities and society\u201d is reflected across teams, practice areas and day-to-day work. One said simply, \u201cwhen you work at the firm you can see that this is real and evident in all the work that you do.\u201d The training is \u201cstand-out in comparison to other firms\u201d according to one insider, who praised the balance between \u201chigh-quality work\u201d and \u201cfeeling supported at every step.\u201d Others agreed, citing \u201cearly responsibility,\u201d \u201cclient contact,\u201d and \u201cadvocacy opportunities\u201d as key strengths. Trainees feel empowered to take initiative and are \u201ctreated as part of the team from day one.\u201d The firm\u2019s \u201copen-minded\u201d approach to flexible working and strong focus on \u201chealthy work-life balance\u201d were also standout themes, with one trainee stating, \u201cif I am still working at 6pm, I am told to go home!\u201d The working environment is described as \u201cnon-hierarchical\u201d and \u201cfriendly and approachable; from day-to-day colleagues to senior partners, \u201ceveryone treats each other equally,\u201d and trainees appreciated being able to \u201csit next to a partner one day and a secretary the next.\u201d One shared how they were \u201cencouraged and empowered to take initiative,\u201d while another cited \u201cleading on a Court of Protection case\u201d as a personal highlight. From \u201csite visits\u201d to \u201cdrafting documents that were approved first time\u201d, the training contract offers moments of real impact and growth. That said, a few areas were flagged for improvement. Several trainees commented on the policy requiring \u201cfirst-year trainees to be in the office four days a week\u201d, with some feeling this was \u201cdisjointed\u201d from the more flexible arrangements offered to others. Remuneration was also a common theme: while trainees understand that \u201cthe pay is a little lower than our competitors\u201d due to the nature of the firm\u2019s work, others noted that \u201cNQ salaries are lower than other firms\u201d and would welcome greater transparency. A handful also raised concerns around \u201cseat allocation\u201d and \u201cNQ retention anxiety\u201d, though this appears to be improving year on year. Trainees spoke positively about hybrid working overall, calling it \u201cgreat\u201d, \u201copen-minded\u201d and \u201cflexible when necessary.\u201d CSR and pro bono are clearly embedded in the firm\u2019s culture, with \u201clots going on all the time\u201d and \u201cmultiple Social Purpose Volunteering days\u201d available. Trainees are even \u201cgiven a charity each year to fundraise for,\u201d taking full responsibility for organising initiatives and events.
