The lowdown - Pupils (in their own words) on One Essex Court

We sent The Legal 500 Future Lawyers Pupil and Junior Barrister survey to pupils and juniors up to two years in tenancy at One Essex Court. Here is what they had to say:

Why did you choose these chambers over any others?

‘Reputation for top commercial work alongside a friendly, inclusive atmosphere’, ‘it offered a much better award and more prestigious than the alternative’

How does your training compare with what you hear from pupils/juniors at other firms?

‘It’s more informal – no centralised assessments but ongoing assessment on work completed throughout chambers’

Best thing about chambers?

‘Quality of work, chambers rooms, laid back and friendly atmosphere’
‘the excellent work’

Worst thing about chambers?

‘The absence of social events and members working in chambers’,  ‘it’s sometimes a little isolated’

Best moment to date?

‘Writing speaking notes for a major case management conference in Section 90A litigation at the end of my pupillage’, ‘prepping for and accompanying a member of chambers to the Supreme Court’

Worst moment to date?

‘The final week before the tenancy decision!’, ‘a long task at which I performed quite poorly’
