Survey Results - Trainee feedback on Fourteen

The lowdown - Pupils (in their own words) on Fourteen

We sent The Legal 500 Future Lawyers Pupil and Junior Barrister survey to pupils and juniors up to two years in tenancy at Fourteen. Here is what they had to say:

Why did you choose these chambers over any others?

‘Pupillage award, reputation and atmosphere in chambers when attending for interviews. Fourteen felt, by far, the most inclusive and engaging chambers – barristers seemed genuinely interested in prospective pupils. The same has continued to be true since the start of pupillage. All members of chambers are approachable, friendly and willing to help more junior members’, ‘I liked the ethos and the environment’

How does your training compare with what you hear from pupils/juniors at other chambers?

‘I have had a largely similar pupillage experience to those at other family sets in London. I have been lucky enough to have a KC as my supervisor, so the level of work I am seeing is higher than what others have experienced. I have felt supported and nurtured throughout my first six and moving into my second’, ‘training is excellent. I fee that it is a very collegiate and friendly set where no question is a stupid question’

Best thing about chambers?

‘The work in chambers is of a high calibre, assisted greatly by the quality of the clerking team. The members and chambers are supportive of each other and there is a collegiate atmosphere’, ‘the people and the work’

Worst thing about chambers?

‘Not many people are in chambers and most work from home’

Best moment to date?

‘Appearing in the Court of Appeal and subsequently publishing an article about the case’, ‘the variety of work across family law and being with exceptional practitioners’

Worst moment to date?

‘There was a short period when I was travelling to courts across the country so long hours were spent commuting’
