Paul is a busy Crown Court advocate. In criminal cases, Paul receives both defence and prosecution instructions. Paul qualified as a solicitor in 1981 before transferring to the Bar in 1996. In 2010 Paul returned to working in a law firm, where he was the first barrister in the country to join a Multi-Disciplinary Practice.

Paul also has an interest in Coroners Inquests as well as regulatory prosecutions, including trading standards, environmental and health and safety matters.
