Career

Simon Connolly is a heavyweight specialist criminal advocate who has developed a loyal client base and an excellent track record in serious and complex casework. He has acted as lead counsel in murder, attempted murder and manslaughter cases as well as numerous cases involving fraud, serious organised crime, violent sex offences and causing death by dangerous driving. He was called in 1981.

As an approved rape and serious sexual offences practitioner he is regularly instructed to act in cases involving young children as witnesses or defendants. His conscientious and sensitive approach is often the reason why he is the advocate of choice in those difficult cases, especially matters involving witnesses with psychiatric problems or other special needs.

In recent years he has developed particular expertise in cases involving the examination of computers, using specialist software. He is adept at understanding complex technical issues and demystifying them before a jury.

Matching with his expertise in sexual offences, Simon has many years experience dealing with cases involving child abuse images, including many cases resulting from Operation ‘ORE’ and ‘LANDSLIDE’. He has worked with the National High Tech Crime Unit in high profile investigations into sophisticated paedophile networks.

Simon is happy to represent clients in courts throughout England at Crown Court and Appellate levels. He practices mainly in the Crown Courts in Surrey, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and London.

Simon is accredited by the Bar Council to provide Public Access Services.
