Position

Luka’s practice has an emphasis on private international law disputes. He has also built a reputation in commercial law, insurance law, and professional/clinical negligence.

He has experience of significant, heavyweight civil and commercial litigation engaging difficult conflict of laws issues. He is currently instructed in a private international law dispute that arises out of the collapse of a foreign road traffic insurer, with an estimated value of c.£80million. He is also presently acting in a high-value clinical negligence claim brought in the High Court by a British soldier who suffered injuries whilst stationed in Germany in the 1990s.

On the commercial side, Luka has, since 2016, represented West Ham United Football Club in the highly-publicised litigation relating to the former Olympic Stadium.

Luka is an accomplished advocate, who appears regularly as sole Counsel in the High Court against significantly more senior opponents. He recently appeared (unled) for the successful Defendant in the High Court trial of Manzi v KCH [2016] Med LR 294, and appeared successfully for the Respondent in the Court of Appeal in the same case (2018).

Luka has considerable appellate experience, and has acted in cases before the Court of Appeal, Privy Council and Bermudian Court of Appeal.

Career

Luka obtained the third highest first in Law in his graduating year at the University of Cambridge (2012).

Before joining 2TG, Luka served as judicial assistant to the United Kingdom’s Judge at the European Court of Justice (2013). His experience of tackling complex questions of EU Law at the highest judicial level gives him an advantage over barristers of similar call when engaging in difficult Conflict of Laws issues.

Publications

Luka has written a number of articles for the Times Newspaper and the Times Law Brief on the issues of fraudulent holiday sickness claims and ‘fundamental dishonesty’ generally.

Additionally, he has been published in numerous journals, including the Personal Injury Law Journal and Law 360. In addition, he frequently lectures nationally and internationally (including at the Academy of European Law).
