Position

Tom Fairclough is a barrister with a broad practice and particular expertise in cross-border disputes. He works as both led and sole counsel.

Tom acts for both Claimants and Defendants in a wide range of cross-border and domestic work and is happy to act on a CFA.

Tom has particular experience of complicated product liability litigation, and is currently acting in group litigation arising out of allegations of ‘defeat devices’ affecting vehicle performance (led by Charles Dougherty KC) and litigation against manufacturers arising out of the Grenfell Tower fire (led by David Turner KC, Clare Dixon KC, and Isabel Barter).

Career

After graduating first in his year, Tom was called to the Bar in 2015 before completing a PhD at the University of Cambridge between 2015 and 2018.

Tom then began pupillage in 2018 before acting as a Judicial Assistant to Lady Arden and Lord Leggatt in the Supreme Court and Privy Council from September 2019.

Tom commenced full-time practice at 2 Temple Gardens in September 2020 and was first ranked as a Rising Star by Legal 500 in Personal Injury and Travel Law (including jurisdictional issues) in September 2022.

Prior to practice, Tom was a Teaching Fellow at University College London and a Director of Studies in Law at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge. His doctoral examiner was Lord Reed of Allermuir, President of the Supreme Court.
