Career

Simon’s practice covers all areas of traditional chancery work. The main areas of his practice are trusts, estate administration, probate and estate planning. He frequently advises on inheritance tax and capital gains tax matters and has experience of drafting trust deeds and related documentation.

In addition to practice at the bar, Simon is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Oxford, where he lectures on capital taxation and trusts. His recent works include an edited collection on defences in equity (Davies, Douglas and Goodkamp, Equitable Defences, Hart 2018) articles on tax planning mistakes (Douglas and Davies, “Tax Mistakes Post-Pitt v Holt” (2018) 32 TLI 3) as well as trusts law (Agnew and Douglas, “Self-Declarations of Trust” (2019) 135 LQR 67). In 2020 Simon joined the team of authors of Snell’s Equity.
