Barry specialises in insolvency and restructuring, banking and finance, commercial litigation and arbitration, and company law. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and has particular expertise in insurance matters and cases of financial complexity. In recent years,

Barry has appeared in numerous substantial and high-profile cases in the Supreme Court/House of Lords (e.g. Lehman Brothers/Nortel, Rubin/New Cap Reinsurance, Sigma Finance, Mainstream Properties, Three Rivers v Bank of England); in the Court of Appeal (e.g. Lehman Brothers (Waterfall Application), Woolworths, Davenham Trust, FKI v Stribog, Golden Key, Whistlejacket Capital, OT Computers); and at first instance, including several major trials and arbitrations. Other recent cases of note include APCOA Parking, MF Global (Hindsight Application), Punch Taverns, Travelodge, BTA Bank v Ablyazov, AWAL Bank and Kaupthing. Recent cases in which Barry has appeared or advised in offshore jurisdictions include (in the Cayman Islands) Primeo Fund, China Fishery Group, Caledonian Bank; (in Bermuda) Lehman Re, Millennium Asset Management, British American Insurance, KIC; (in the British Virgin Islands) Monarch Pointe Fund, Thema Fund; and (in Hong Kong) Mongolian Mining Corporation. Barry has also recently acted as an expert (in proceedings in New York) in Hellas Communications v TPG, Mill Financial v Hicks, and Deutsche Bank v Serengeti.
