Position

Practice covering all aspects of medical and police law and related civil proceedings. Disciplinary and regulatory hearings (representing doctors and dentists in the GMC and GDC respectively and prosecuting police misconduct hearings), clinical negligence (claimant and defendant) and inquests and all related aspects of public law, both in his own right and as junior counsel. Oliver has acted on behalf of families and doctors in relation to a number of high-profile paediatric deaths and on behalf of NHS Trusts and families in deaths in custody. Junior Counsel in actions against manufacturers arising out of metal on metal hip implant litigation. Junior Counsel for the Match Commanders in the Hillsborough Inquests. Junior Counsel for Surrey Police in fresh inquest into the death of Cheryl James at the Deepcut Army barracks. Junior Counsel in high-profile prosecutions of the Chief Constable and Deputy Chief Constable of Cleveland Police and both the associated Judicial Reviews arising therefrom. Junior counsel in Southall v General Medical Council [2010] EWCA Civ 407, concerning the adequacy of reasons for findings made in the GMC; and in Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in Edwards v Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust [2010] EWCA Civ 571 and Edwards v Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; Botham v Ministry of Defence [2011] UKSC 58.
