A broad practice encompassing criminal law, extradition, regulatory law and the civil aspects of VAT fraud. He is regularly called on to advise in cases which involve allegations of financial crime and tax fraud. Crime: defends in a wide range of cases in the Magistrates’ Courts and the Crown Court; prosecutes for the CPS and the Department for Work and Pensions; regularly represents police officers charged with criminal offences; advises and represents individuals in confiscation proceedings. Courts martial: defends in the Courts Martial and the Summary Appeal Court in the UK and in Germany. Extradition: regularly appears in extradition cases at first instance and on appeal to the High Court. Regulatory enforcement: acts for local authorities and fire authorities in environmental and fire safety prosecutions; advises and represents individuals and companies in relation to regulatory enforcement proceedings and the impact of new regulations. VAT and missing trader intra community fraud: advises and represents companies in the First-tier Tax Tribunal in cases where HMRC have made allegations that transactions are connected to MTIC fraud; advises companies on input tax reclaims and due diligence procedures.
