Regulatory and Public Law.
A public and regulatory law specialist with particular expertise in licensing; planning and environmental law; public and administrative law and regulatory law. He is regularly instructed by trade associations, individuals, companies and local authorities in taxi licencing, alcohol and entertainment and all other licensing matters, both at hearings, appeals and advisory work. Recent examples include successfully representing objectors to the renewal of a sexual entertainment venue licence at The Windmill in London, advice concerning Uber’s model of operation and whether it complies with licensing law and successfully appealing a local authority’s decision to revoke a premises licence on the grounds of employing illegal works and the crime and disorder objective. In planning and environmental law he is instructed in hearings and inquiries and has a particular focus on planning enforcement, statutory nuisance, and environmental crime. Recent public law work has included; resisting a judicial review of a local authority’s decision to prosecute the director of a company for breach of a planning enforcement notice; resisting a judicial review of a local authority’s decision not to withdraw a planning enforcement notice; Judicial review of the FSA’s decision to close down a food business. Much of his regulatory work focuses on civil and criminal proceedings and advice in food law, animal welfare, health and safety, planning and environmental and trading standards, and includes POCA proceedings.
