Position

Asma has a broad and busy practice in the fields of immigration/asylum, Court of Protection and discrimination and education law.

She has appeared before a range of tribunals including the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) and (Special Educational Needs and Disability Chamber), the Upper Tribunal, the county court, the Court of Protection, the High Court, the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

Asma provides advice and representation in all areas of immigration, asylum, deportation and European free movement law. She has experience of appeals, bail applications, administrative review and judicial review cases. She deals with a range of cases including refugee and human rights claims, cases involving vulnerable clients (including unaccompanied minors) and cases involving the Points Based System. Asma has experience of deprivation of nationality cases and has a developing trafficking practice.

Asma is regularly instructed to advise in cases involving discrimination in schools and higher education institutions. She also deals with school exclusions and has experience of cases involving Special Educational Needs. She represents higher education students in internal disciplinary cases and has experience of public law challenges and negligence cases in the field of education.

Asma has a varied Court of Protection practice. She has dealt with a range of cases including those involving deprivation of liberty, personal welfare disputes and disputes regarding property and affairs issues. She has experience of committal proceedings and applications relating to forced marriage protection orders.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Asma was a judicial assistant to Lord Justice Pill in the Court of Appeal. She also spent a year as the Assistant Legal Officer at the Free Representation Unit (Employment and Social Security).

Asma is committed to pro-bono work. She regularly volunteers for Bail for Immigration Detainees and the Article 8 Deportations Advice Project. She accepts instructions through the Bar Pro Bono Unit. Asma volunteers for Rights of Women and has volunteered for Haringey Migrant Support Centre.
