Priya is often asked to provide in-house training and is happy to do this. She has delivered seminars on a range of topics, including domestic violence, civil penalties for employing illegal workers, Article 8 ECHR, the Immigration Act 2014, appeal rights and EEA law. Priya also provide seminars for the The Solicitors Group regularly.
Priya is a registered direct access barrister. She is often instructed directly by members of the public.
Priya is a Trustee at North Kensington Law Centre. She is also a Trustee at Asian Women’s Lone Parent’s Association.
Priya has provided regular legal advice surgeries for clients at Kalayaan (the migrant domestic worker charity) and through Rights of Women.
She regularly represents clients at bail hearings for Bail for Immigration Detainees and provides them with advice on potential unlawful detention claims.
She further regularly represents and advises clients via the Bar Pro Bono Unit. She is happy to take on cases on a pro-bono basis where this is appropriate.
Before coming to the Bar Priya was employed at solicitors firms and legal charities.
She was an Asylum and Immigration Supervisor and In-house Advocate at Jackson & Canter Solicitors in Liverpool. She also worked as a Senior Caseworker at Refugee & Migrant Justice (formerly the Refugee Legal Centre) in Leeds. In both of these roles she specialised in female asylum and immigration cases and advocated in Tribunals frequently.
She has also worked as an Accredited Family Mediator for Bolton & Salford Mediation Services.
Priya has taught law as a Criminal Law Tutor at the University of Liverpool.
