Position

Prior to being Called to the Bar, Lucy practiced as a criminal defence solicitor in both South and North Yorkshire and County Durham. Lucy represented clients in the Police Station, Magistrates’ and Youth Courts and was a Duty Solicitor. In 2012 she obtained her Higher Rights of Audience and since 2013 has practiced predominantly in the Crown Court as a Higher Court Advocate for a busy South Yorkshire firm.

In the Crown Court, Lucy deals with a wide range of offences and has dealt with issues including applications to dismiss, extended sentences and fitness to plead.

During her career as a solicitor, Lucy has represented members of the Armed Forces in criminal investigations and proceedings. This included appearing before Court Martial both in this country and Germany. Lucy has also advised and represented clients on matters of prison law and those detained under the Mental Health Act.

Lucy also has extensive experience in dealing with motoring offences in the Magistrates’ Court. She has also successfully appealed against a decision not to find exceptional hardship in relation to a penalty points disqualification.

Lucy’s experience as a solicitor gives her an excellent appreciation of the pressures upon professional clients. Lucy is known for her thorough approach and prides herself on providing excellent client care. She is particularly skilled at putting vulnerable clients, who have little experience of the criminal justice system, at ease.

Having joined Chambers, Lucy also intends to develop a prosecution practice and is willing to accept instructions to prosecute.
