Matthew is a specialist family law practitioner with an interest in all aspects of Children Act work, matrimonial and cohabitee disputes. With substantial advisory and advocacy skills, Matthew is a popular choice of barrister for a variety of local law firms and local authorities. He increasingly handles cases which overlap the family and civil jurisdictions dealing regularly with cases pursuant to the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act, Inheritance Act matters and third party intervener applications in ancillary relief cases. He is also regularly instructed in serious Children Act cases for local authorities, guardians and parents, and high-value ancillary relief cases. Some of Matthew’s most notable recent cases include successfully representing a mother in care proceedings where the father was found to be at high risk of sexual harm to their two daughters. He has also represented a convicted schedule one sex offender, securing contact with his daughter for him following a fully contested five day contact hearing. Many of Matthew’s cases have involved a degree of public attention. These have included international footballers for ancillary relief proceedings and injunctive relief for an internationally acclaimed sports person.
