Yaqub has a substantial civil practice covering all aspects of personal injury and professional negligence. While principally acting on behalf of defendants, he has a significant trade union practice in the West Midlands. Industrial disease is a particular specialty having experience in acting in difficult cases involving causation. In the area of clinical negligence he has acted in a wide variety of cases, having experience in the following areas of medicine: anaesthesia, orthopaedics(adult and juvenile), obstetrics and gynaecology, cosmetic surgery, oncology, laparoscopic surgery, midwifery and nursing practice, psychiatry, general surgery, urology, cardiology, dental and maxillo-facial, GP negligence, ophthalmology. As junior treasury counsel he acts on behalf of many government bodies in relation to employment issues involving discrimination, harassment and unfair dismissal. In addition he acts on behalf of the MOD in all aspects of personal injury claims having experience of accidents occurring abroad as well as the whole range of accidents affecting military personnel in a variety of situations. Recently Yaqub has become more involved in civil actions against the police where Human Rights and civil liberty issues are at the forefront.
