Position

Richard specialises in all aspects of employment law including discrimination, in technology and construction court work, contractual disputes, environmental law and personal injury. Richard took an early interest in employment law having been a member of the committee of the Free Representation Unit while in pupillage in London. After joining Oriel Chambers in 1980, Richard built up a large employment practice. For approximately 12 years Richard was effectively standing counsel to the Littlewoods organisation on employment matters appearing for Littlewoods organisation in over 125 tribunal cases from Dundee to Truro. Richard is regularly engaged by local authorities dealing with all aspects of employment law and in relation to race, sex and disability discrimination. He has an extensive employment appeal tribunal practice as is apparent from the large number of significant cases in which he has appeared in the EAT. It was as a result of significant experience in issues relating to land and sewerage drainage that Richard was appointed to the Attorney General’s List of Prosecuting Advocates for Environmental Work. Richard regularly prosecutes both water pollution and waste regulation offences on behalf of the Environment Agency. He also has an extensive practice representing sewerage and water utilities. Richard is a regular advocate in the technology and construction Court in Liverpool both in respect of substantive trials and issues relating to the enforcement of adjudication awards. Having been a committee member of the Northern Circuit Commercial Bar Association Richard is experienced in all aspects of the law relating to commercial and contractual disputes. Richard has significant experience in the personal injury field and is retained as a prosecuting advocate on the Attorney General’s List for Health & Safety Matters. Appointments and awards: Junior Council to the Attorney General’s Unified List of Prosecuting Advocates for the Northern Circuit for Environmental and Health & Safety.
