Position

Barrister specialising in business law, employment law, public and local government law, education law, and information law. Frequently instructed as sole counsel in multiday hearings involving allegations of discrimination and whistle-blowing, and as junior counsel on complex, high-value claims. Recently appeared as sole counsel in a four day trial concerning breach of confidence (Personal Management Solutions Ltd v Brakes Bros Ltd [2014] EWHC 3495 (QB)). Led by Richard Leiper in a three-week High Court trial concerning team moves, client solicitation and conspiracy (Lonmar Global Risks Ltd v West & ors [2011]). Appeared in the EAT in an important appeal concerning employment status in whistleblowing claims (Keppel Seghers v Hinds [2014] 1 CR 1105). Represented the Legal Services Commission in its defence of the Law Society’s judicial review of its tender process for family legal aid contracts ([2010] EWHC 2550 led by Clive Lewis QC and Paul Nicholls QC). Acted for the Food Standards Agency (led by Clive Lewis QC) in relation to a meat producer’s challenge to the European Commission’s prohibition of certain meat products (R (Newby) v FSA [2013] EWHC 1966 (Admin)). Particular specialism in the Assets of Community Value regime.

  • Possession Proceedings 28 August 2012

    The lower courts continue to clarify the position following the decisions of the Supreme Court in Manchester City Council v Pinnock [2010] UKSC 45; [2011] 2 AC 104 and Hounslow London Borough Council v Powell [2011] UKSC 8; [2011] 2 AC 18 on the application of Article 8 ECHR to defend possession proceedings.
