Position

Ronnie specialises in commercial, employment and public law. He has experience of acting and advising in a broad range of cases in those areas, with a particular emphasis on contractual disputes, discrimination claims and commercial judicial review. He is regularly instructed as sole counsel in multi-day hearings in the Employment Tribunal, and has also acted as sole and junior counsel in appeals to the EAT. His commercial practice includes acting and advising in claims for breach of contract,including those with an employment context, such as breach of restrictive covenants and ‘team move’ cases. In the area of public law Ronnie specialises in public procurement and state aid. He acted for Coventry City Council in the first case in UK courts to apply the private investor test in state aid: R (Sky Blue Sports and Leisure Ltd) v Coventry City Council [2014) BLGR 616 (led by James Goudie QC).

    The lower courts continue to clarify the position following the decisions of the Supreme Court in Manchester City Council v Pinnock [2010] UKSC 45; [2011] 2 AC 104 and Hounslow London Borough Council v Powell [2011] UKSC 8; [2011] 2 AC 18 on the application of Article 8 ECHR to defend possession proceedings.
