Position

Sandra has a broad commercial practice with particular focus on shipping, international trade, energy, insurance and international arbitration. Sandra regularly appears as an advocate in the Commercial Court, the chancery division of the High Court and in arbitration. Sandra has experience acting as sole advocate, with leading counsel and as part of larger legal teams. Recent work in the energy sector includes a high-value gas field dispute with issues relating to upstream matters such as field evaluation and downstream matters such as market economics and forecasting. Recent shipping and trade work includes a wide range of charterparty and sale of goods disputes arising against the backdrop of recent market fluctuations. Many of Sandra’s cases involve jurisdiction issues and interim relief. She particularly enjoys working on these cases and has been instructed to appear in a number of jurisdiction challenge, anti-suit injunction and freezing injunction hearings.

Supreme Court case the B Atlantic, which examined the scope of cover for malicious third parties in marine insurance cover, and the construction of the exclusion of an infringement of customs regulations in the standard war risks form, is a key highlight for Alistair Schaff QC and Alexander MacDonald. Peter MacDonald Eggers QC and Sandra Healy appeared in the Court of Appeal in Aspen v Kairos, a $22m claim relating to the loss of the vessel, the Atlantik Confidence. Richard Southern QC acted in Classic Maritime v Limbungan Makmur Sdn Bhd, a $20m claim for non-performance of a contract of affreightment.
