Position

Charles Priday was the recipient of the Shipping Junior of the Year award at the Chambers UK Bar Awards 2014. He was also nominated for the same award in 2022, and for the Shipping, Commodities and Aviation Junior of the Year in The Legal 500 2022.  He has also been voted one of the top 100 juniors at the UK Bar, out of more than 10,000.

Charles specialises in all areas of commercial law, notably shipping, shipbuilding, sale and carriage of goods, insurance, all aspects of international trade including banking, as well as general contractual disputes.    He undertakes advisory work, including advising commercial clients on a direct access basis. He appears as advocate in arbitrations (both domestic and international) and before the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Charles Priday also accepts appointment as arbitrator, particularly in London Maritime Arbitrators Association disputes.

Recent cases include The Ocean Prefect [2020] 2 Lloyd’s Rep. 654 on the admissibility in arbitrations of Marine Accident Investigation reports; Bilgent v ADM [2020] 1 Lloyd’s Rep. 409 on cancellation clauses; Agile v Essar [2018] Lloyd’s Rep. Plus 79 on the NYPE Interclub Agreement.
