Position

Tom accepts instructions across the range of Chambers’ practice areas including crime (both prosecuting and defending), inquiries, and public law.

Recent instructions include aggravated arson, dangerous driving, and dwelling burglary. He has acted for young people in the youth court, including a 16-year-old charged with possessing 200 wraps of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply. He has represented a number of vulnerable individuals with mental health conditions such as paranoid schizophrenia and severe autism: he is familiar with the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 and the possible scope for abuse of process arguments.

Tom is currently instructed as second junior counsel to the Home Office in the Undercover Policing Inquiry, chaired by Pitchford LJ, which will examine the scope of covert policing since 1968.
