Mr Andrew Ian Thompson
Andrew is a highly regarded advocate who both defends and prosecutes in East Anglia, London and the South East. He specialises in cases where serious sexual offences are alleged and in particular those involving non-recent allegations, vulnerable or child witnesses. He also has extensive experience in murder and manslaughter cases, serious assaults and where non-accidental injuries to children or vulnerable adults have been alleged. Other key areas of practice include drug trafficking, large-scale public disorder, money laundering and fraud. His recent caseload includes alleged sexual offences in universities, schools, care homes, by medical practitioners and within youth groups and charitable organisations. Andrew is regularly chosen for cases involving mentally disadvantaged defendants or witnesses and parties with other special requirements. He has appeared in many murder and high profile sexual abuse trials, including the largest historical child sexual abuse investigation ever undertaken in the East of England which featured in a BBC1 documentary. Andrew advises and appears in criminal appeals that were not pursued by the applicant’s original legal team. Andrew is an accomplished communicator with an excellent jury manner. He is perhaps best known for his highly effective cross-examinations, his tactical skills and his eye for detail.
