Mr David Young
Specialist international trial lawyer, who focuses on defending and advising persons accused before the international, foreign and national criminal courts. He is currently instructed in two international court cases in the Hague. Since 2012 he has been based in the Hague leading a team of international criminal law specialists, representing the interests of the Accused Assad Sabra before The Special Tribunal for Lebanon. The accused are indicted for homicide and terrorism charges in relation to the assassination of Lebanon’s former Prime Minister, Mr Rafic Hariri. In 2018 he was also appointed as Counsel in the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals. He has advised UN agencies, and international defence teams, on issues affecting international cases, particularly in the Middle East.
In 2016 he was elected to the new International Criminal Court Bar Association Executive Council. In 2018 he was was re-elected to the ICCBA Executive Council. He is an approved Counsel on the ICC, ADC, MICT and STL Lists of International Counsel in the Hague.
He is a Co-Chair of Red Lion Chambers’ International Practice Group.
