Position

Barrister specialising in construction and engineering, arbitration (domestic and international), litigation and adjudication; professional negligence; EU procurement; energy; insurance (construction industry); rights of light and party walls. As a Treasury A Panel counsel prior to taking silk, Sarah represented UK government bodies on numerous disputes, including the Highways Agency, Environment Agency, Ministry of Defence and the Department for Communities and Local Government. In addition to her work as counsel, Sarah Hannaford is a trained mediator and accredited adjudicator. Sarah Hannaford QC acted for Alstom in an action against London Underground and Transport for London concerning the procurement for the supply of a new traction system for the central line. She also acted for HS2, leading Simon Taylor in a challenge to the pre-qualification stage of the high-speed railway’s procurement of rolling stock. It combines expertise in EU and competition law with procurement and State Aid advice.
