Peter Lownds specialises in complex and serious criminal cases. He has a high-profile and wide-ranging defence practice that includes fraud, terrorism, major drug supply conspiracies, serious sexual offences and cases involving very serious or fatal violence. His most recent work has included conducting trials for a Russian banker accused of corruption and a man alleged to be involved in the importation of 230 kilos of cocaine. During 2016 he conducted trials for a young man with learning difficulties accused of manslaughter, a woman alleged to be involved in a nationwide conspiracy to supply opium and a business owner accused of involvement in a multi-million-pound international fraud. Other recent cases include defending a businessman accused of historical child cruelty, a teenager alleged to be plotting to make a terrorist bomb, and a client charged following a very serious stabbing incident at an art gallery. His historical high profile cases include successfully defending a pilot of a helicopter charged with manslaughter and representing a man charged over the prohibition of the publication of images of the murderer of James Bulger.
