Position

Tim Green has been recognised by the legal directories for 10 years as a leader in regulatory crime and corporate defence. His practice includes investigations into companies and their officers arising from (1) death or serious injury at work; (2) serious environmental harm (3) complex and high value financial wrongdoing, with particular emphasis on money laundering. Tim’s work overlaps regulatory, civil and criminal enforcement.

Career

In the past 3 years Tim has been instructed in over 30 investigations arising from death or serious injury at work. His clients include many leading international law firms, FTSE 100 companies and their officers, as well as the HSE. He has particular experience of workplace investigations in the construction, recycling, maritime and manufacturing sectors. As an important corollary to his health and safety work, Tim frequently appears in jury inquests where A2 HRA is engaged and where the impact of the inquiry on future civil/criminal proceeding is of paramount concern. As a mark of his standing in this field, Tim has conducted training for HSLA throughout the UK and he has twice been asked to speak at the HSLA national conference.  Since Tim’s success in defining the meaning of “waste” in EA v Thorn International Limited [2008] EWCH 2595, he has been acknowledged as an expert in environmental law. He regularly advises very large private and public undertakings on their response to EA investigation, civil undertakings and proceeds of crime in the context of environmental enforcement. Tim also has extensive experience bringing private prosecutions for Water Utilities. In 2018 Tim appeared for The Pensions Regulator, successfully bringing its first prosecution for general economic crime arising from abuse of the automatic enrolment rules for workplace pensions. Since 2014 he has acted as external counsel in a complex and sensitive offshore tax fraud and in 2012 he was seconded to the FCA Enforcement Division to a “Technical Specialist” role.
