Areas of strength for the team include professional negligence cases concerning costs issues, costs appeals, and enforceability of funding arrangements. Oliver Moore is ‘very knowledgeable in all things costs‘, and acts as head of the practice group in chambers. Highlights included James Bentley acting for the claimant in Bateman v Devon County Council, which involved issues concerning fixed costs after the claimant was injured while riding a motorcycle on a defective road; it was ruled that fixed costs did not apply and costs should instead be assessed as the case fitted into neither the road traffic accident or public liability protocols.
