Osman has been a barrister since 1996. Over the course of his time at the bar he has defended in some of the UK’s highest profile and most complex cases. He is regularly sought after for his expertise in complex and grave crime, as well as, white collar and regulatory crime, and commercial fraud. He specialises in representing and advising high net-worth individuals. He is a specialist in white-collar crime, regulatory law, and anti-bribery/corruption. Anti-bribery and corruption: in 2012, following the introduction of the UK Bribery Act, Osman was appointed external counsel to AXAI (UK). He was engaged to advise on complex third-party co-insurance agreements, agency agreements, advance commissions, and commission over-rider contracts. He is regarded as specialist and leader in this area, bringing the unique aspect of his criminal expertise to the field of insurance regulatory law. He subsequently drafted AXAI’s anti-bribery procedure, which was fully implemented becoming a model for the insurance industry. Recently, he has been approached to advise on sporting agency agreements, as well as, corporate compliance in international commercial contracts. Other: alongside the advisory aspect of Osman’s practice he regularly undertakes trials including cases outside the UK. During 2013/2014 he defended the principal in a corporate fraud, which was the most complex and lengthy case in Gibraltar’s history. The trial lasted ten months and is presently progressing to the Privy Council where it is expected to become one of the foremost decisions on the citizen’s right to a jury trial. Osman has expertise in respect of cases before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Appellate work: Osman regularly appears before the Court of Appeal and the administrative court. He has, on number of occasions, petitioned the ECHR on convention points arising from UK proceedings.


Osman is an advance advocacy trainer and assessor at Inner Temple. He is also specialist counsel in the cross-examination of vulnerable witnesses.
