Michael Neofytou is a dedicated criminal defence specialist and was called to Bar in 1999. He practices from the leading defence chambers at 25 Bedford Row in London and is known to practice throughout the U.K. With over 18 years’ experience Michael is frequently instructed in the most complex and high-profile serious crime casesin the U.K. His particular areas of specialism are homicide, drugs and large -scale high value fraud allegations.  In 2017/18 he led for one of the defendants in Operation Uzana, the longest ever fraud trial in the history of Liverpool Crown Court, a trial that lasted over 1 year. Recent instructions include successfully representing a man of good character at the Old Bailey charged with murder (Operation Markfield) and leading for a defendant in Operation Labootan, a 100+ kilo cocaine conspiracy at Kingston Crown Court. Michael successfully defended an individual in Operation Cornpipe, a counter-terrorism led investigation into an organised network alleging the international theft and rebranding of high value prestige vehicles.

The set exclusively defends in criminal cases, including a significant proportion of the most challenging publicly funded work alongside private work for a diverse range of solicitors. Jeremy Dein QC represented grime musician Kano, who was acquitted of GBH with intent and affray after an alleged attack at a private members club in Shoreditch, while Paul Mendelle QC and Michael Neofytou represented a man who was acquitted of both murder and manslaughter after admitting to beating a man to death with a bicycle lock.
