Position

Matt has appeared in the leading public law cases R(N) v Lewisham (article 8 and eviction without due process); Hotak v Southwark (vulnerability); McDonald v McDonald (Human Rights horizontality), R(HA) v Ealing (indirect discrimination) and most recently in the Supreme Court in R(Z) v Hackney (direct discrimination, positive action).

Matt is very active across the social housing sector, providing strategic advice to many London boroughs, particularly in the areas of regeneration, property and housing. In Kuznetsov v DCLG and Camden he successfully defended challenges to a CPO and GVD in respect of a major residential development. In R(Imperial London Hotels Ltd) v Camden he successfully defended a challenge to traffic management decisions affecting roads in central London.

He has advised Kensington and Chelsea on providing assistance to the former residents of Grenfell Tower and its vicinity and major housing associations in relation to finance and fraud.

In June 2016 Matt was appointed Junior Counsel to the Crown – A Panel.

In February 2017 Matt was appointed as Queen’s Counsel.
