Headed by Chris Bright QC, No5 Barristers’ Chambers’ clinical negligence team is one of the most comprehensive in the Midlands. Work done here is often complex and sensitive, with practitioners specialising in brain and spinal injuries, delayed diagnosis, mental health, birth injury, and matters arising from hospital deaths. Chambers saw David Tyack QC and John Coughlan QC take silk in the 2021 round. Chambers head Jonathan Jones QC currently represents the claimant for a claim in excess of £5m against a hospital where liability was admitted for failure to diagnose spina bifida on an antenatal scan. Jones QC also led Jamie Gamble in JB v Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, a wrongful birth claim arising out of a failure to diagnose microcephaly during antenatal scanning, securing a £6m settlement for the claimants.
Considered as a leading set in the West Midlands, No5 Barristers’ Chambers offers one of the largest personal injury teams in the circuit. The personal injury group has individuals appropriate for a range of claims, and the team is regularly instructed in spinal, brain, physiological and fatal injury cases, as well as ones concerning amputation and chronic pain conditions. David Tyack QC and John Coughlan QC were 2021 Silk appointments. Praised for its depth in the junior end, chambers is also home to Jamie Gamble and Esther Gamble, both praised for their work in legally complex and intricate cases with recent work including cases in the wake of severe road traffic accidents and catastrophic spinal injuries respectively.
