Work Department

Criminal; Regulatory

David Temkin practises in crime and regulatory law. He has been described by one senior solicitor as “our first choice to instruct in our most complex cases”.  A leading criminal silk has commented that “David Temkin is one of the brightest barristers I know”.

David’s meticulous attention to detail, his emphasis on client care and his dedication to his cases have meant that he is in very high demand. David enjoys a bulging defence practice and he attracts instructions in murders, rapes, frauds, drug importations and the full range of criminal work. He attained Grade 4 on the CPS Advocacy Panel at an early stage. He was appointed to the specialist Rape Panel and the Attorney-General’s Unified List of Prosecution Advocates. He is regularly instructed in high profile and complex trials.  Recent cases of note include R v Benson, (representing the first Defendant jointly charged with the brutal murder of a homeless man) and R v Aslam, (representing a businessman charged with conspiracy to launder over £200 million).

In his regulatory work, David specialises in the areas of healthcare, health and safety and police cases. He regularly presents cases before the General Medical Council and in 2012 was appointed to the list of Specialist Regulatory Advocates for Health and Safety and Environmental Law. He has dealt with many cases involving fatalities resulting from breaches of health and safety legislation. In his police work, David has represented numerous officers facing allegations of computer misuse, all of whom, (as at August 2016), have been acquitted.

A former teacher and university lecturer, David conducts training courses for clinicians and NHS managers around the country. David is Visiting Lecturer in “Professional Discipline” at the BPP University on the Bar Professional Training Course. His courses focus on Healthcare Regulation.
