Position

Robert is an experienced criminal fraud specialist, who prosecutes and defends in serious and complex fraud cases. He advises on law and case strategy pre-charge, in cross-jurisdictional issues relating to evidence and justiciability.

Robert has considerable experience in both direct and indirect tax fraud, and has prosecuted many multi-handed MTIC frauds (Missing Trader Intra-Community, also known as ‘carousel fraud). These included the successful prosecution of an HMRC investigation into a ninety-eight million pound marketed income tax avoidance scheme in the film industry.

Robert defended the Camp prisoner abuse trial arising out of the second Iraq war and has extensive experience in courts-martial advocacy in the UK overseas. His practice encompasses murder/manslaughter cases, as well as health and safety criminal litigation, and medicines and medicinal product prosecutions, which include advising the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) in the Seroxat investigation.

Before taking silk, Robert was on the Attorney-General’s A List of specialist advocates and a Category 4 Prosecutor. Now, he is a member of the Serious Fraud Office Panel of the Queen’s Counsel Prior to taking silk.
