Particular expertise in inquests and civil claims arising out of: deaths in police and prison custody; terrorist attacks; the police use of firearms; injuries sustained whilst working for MOD, government departments, private contractors.

Sam has represented Coroners, police forces, the Government, the National Crime Agency and police officers in numerous recent high profile inquests, public inquiries and civil claims including:

London Bridge and Westminster Bridge terrorist attack inquests; Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse – representing the  MPS in the  Westminster, Catholic Church and Lambeth Councils Inquiries; Leicestershire Constabulary in the Janner Inquiry, Nottinghamshire Constabulary in the Nottinghamshire Care Homes Inquiry and the Department of Health in the Child Migration Inquiry. Undercover Policing Inquiry – representing Nottinghamshire Constabulary. Inquest into death of Lorraine Barwell (Prison Guard killed while on duty at Blackfriars Crown Court). Counsel to the Inquests into the deaths of  630 British tourists in Sousse, Tunisia. Counsel to the Inquest into the Sri Lanka terrorist attacks; and into the death of Nick Alexander at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris. Counsel to the Chief Coroner in the Inquest into the death of Dr Abbas Khan while in prison in Syria. Counsel to HMG in the fresh inquest into the Birmingham Pub Bombings. Hillsborough Inquests (representing Operation Resolve), Mark Duggan Inquest (representing the NCA), Public Inquiry into the death of Azelle Rodney (representing E?, the officer who shot him), Inquest into the death of Ian Tomlinson                    (Metropolitan Police), Inquest into the death of Jean-Charles De Menezes. Sam has represented numerous government departments, including the MOD and Home Office, and private contractors (including SERCO, G4S and Reliance) in inquests and civil claims arising out of the death of individuals in custody or during training sessions or whilst on duty.
