In addition to the above areas, John-Paul has a particular specialism in cases involving street works and closures, including disputes under the New Roads and Street Works Act, Traffic Regulation Act (Traffic Regulation Orders) and the Highways Act 1980. Significant cases include the following: Employment Law: Home Office v Essop [2015] All ER (D) 219, Cordell v Foreign and Commonwealth Office [2012] ICR 280, Watts v High Quality Lifestyles [2006] IRLR 850 Public and Administrative Law: Akhalu v SSHD [2014] EW HC 1505, MS Palestinian Territories v SSHD [2010] UKSC 25, Rahman and Others v SSHD [2011] All ER (D) 155.

Public Inquiries and Inquests: Instructed in the Billy Wright Inquiry,

Rosemary Nelson Inquiry and Robert Hamill Inquiry. Regularly act for the police and public bodies in in Inquests.


Called to the Bar in 1995. Appointed to the Attorney General’s “A” panel of counsel in 2014
