Jonathan is experienced in running M&A transactions and heads the corporate department. Recent work highlights include: the sale of Marlborough Communications Limited to AIM listed Cohort PLC; the sale of two publishing businesses Lewes Holdings Group to Quarto Group and Ilex Press to Octopus Publishing Group. In 2013 Jonathan sold a major client to a private equity acquirer for over £80m, in 2012 sold Kineo to City & Guilds, and in 2011 sold Pyroban to Caterpillar.


Always worked in the South East and became a partner at DMH Stallard in 2007. Has 25 years’ experience in corporate practice, in private practice and in industry.

The practice at ‚Äėfirst-class‚Äô national firm¬†DMH Stallard LLP¬†is headed by senior litigation partner¬†Tim Ashdown,¬†who possesses ‚Äėthorough, in-depth understanding of his subject‚Äô and ‚Äėgreat strategic skills‚Äô. Ashdown divides his time between the firm‚Äôs London and Brighton offices and acts on all aspects of intellectual property, looking after many of the firm‚Äôs key IT clients, including Nozomi, Arcadia Group and Alpargatas. Ashdown has continued to support the Havaianas footwear brand ‚Äď owned by Alpargatas ‚Äď on multiple infringement and parallel importation cases, regularly securing injunctions and disclosure orders in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) and the High Court. Other key figures for the team include Brighton-based IP disputes specialist¬†Robert Ganpatsingh¬†and Gatwick-based commercial partner¬†John Yates,¬†who leads on non-contentious IP matters for the office. Yates and Ganpatsingh both worked with corporate partner¬†Jonathan Grant¬†on the sale of Summersdale Publishers to Octopus Publishing Group, during which material copyright issues arose requiring the input of Yates and Ganpatsingh to resolve. Senior associate¬†Sarah Cook¬†is noted for her experience in a broad spectrum of IP matters and in domain name disputes, notably assisting Ashdown in the case of Xena Systems Limited v Cantideck and Conquip Industrial before the IPEC, acting for the claimant.
