Members regularly deal with complex and high-value disputes in domestic and international jurisdictions. Members also act before and as arbitrators and mediators.

Devereux members’ experience in complementary areas of work provides a distinct advantage in disputes where there is a cross-over between different practice areas. For example, tax and employment; professional negligence and insurance; and personal injury and employment. Exposure to a broad range of work means that junior tenants gain extensive experience of all aspects of oral and written advocacy at an early stage.

A number of Devereux’s barristers also benefit from their previous experience working outside of the Bar, including in solicitors’ firms, medical doctor, strategic management consultants, industry federations, and for Ofcom or the Competition Commission. This brings an understanding of the pressures of the competitive corporate environment clients operate in.

Since 2019, 20 Devereux members have provided pro bono services across the employment, tax, and personal injury practice areas.

Devereux is a long standing supporter of Advocate, “the Bar’s national charity”. Advocate “match members of the public who need free legal help with barristers who are willing to donate their time and expertise in deserving cases for those who are unable to obtain legal aid and cannot afford to pay.” Devereux supports this charity both financially and by reviewing and undertaking pro bono cases for those in need.

Devereux is a member of Pro Bono Connect, a project set up to establish a network of barristers and solicitors willing to work together on pro bono cases for individuals, charities and community groups who cannot afford to pay for legal advice/representation and for whom public or alternative means of funding are not reasonably available.

Devereux participates in the Pegasus Access Scheme and agree to take a number of work experience placements every year. Inner Temple launched the unique scheme in 2011 with the stated aim of improving access to the profession and to support high achieving students from under-represented backgrounds by providing the experiences they need to be able to thrive at the Bar.
