Broadway House Chambers has been at the forefront of the legal profession in the North of England for nearly 100 years. You can trust us to serve you with confidence, professionalism and vigour.

Barristers are often said to be drawn from a narrow, privileged elite, unrepresentative of the communities they serve. At Broadway House Chambers we seek to challenge that stereotype: we are proud of our history but we strive to offer a distinctive, innovative approach to the provision of legal services. Broadway House Chambers is recognised as ‘one of the leading sets in the North of England with some extremely talented young barristers coming through the ranks’ (Legal 500).

ADR

Broadway House Chambers has a specialist Team equipped to assist in the resolution of family disputes through the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution, (‘ADR’) which the courts are increasingly urging parties to consider both before and during proceedings. We offer an array of services, including Arbitration, Private FDRs/DRAs and Early Neutral Evaluation. The Team comprises a dedicated group of specialist practitioners who are able to work with you to assist in the resolution of parties’ cases, whether that be financial remedy, cohabitation and trust disputes, or private children cases. Our ADR practitioners offer a range of expertise and span different levels of experience, including those who sit as family Recorders and Deputy District Judges. No case is too big or small to rule out ADR.

CIVIL

Our Civil Team combines broad experience with a deep knowledge base to offer high-quality, effective representation. Our Barristers regularly appear in civil matters at every stage and at every level of complexity, from providing written advice and drafting pleadings, through to trials and disposal hearings in the County Court and High Court.

CRIME

Our Criminal Team offers excellence in advocacy and provides experienced and skilled representation at every level. Our members continue to appear in high-profile cases on a national level whether it be the Magistrates’ Court, Youth Court, Crown Court or Court of Appeal.

The Team consists of 4 KCs and 29 juniors of every level of seniority, and as such Broadway House barristers are well equipped to deal with all types of criminal cases. The Criminal Team is proud of its reputation as an integral part of a Chambers that is able to offer a first class service to both professional and lay clients and to provide advocacy and advisory services of the highest calibre. We have advocates highly recommended in the Legal 500 for criminal work and one of the Team’s key strengths lies in the breadth and depth of experience of its members.

Members of Chambers prosecute for the Crown Prosecution Service and are accredited at all grades, including Specialist Rape prosecutors and the Complex Casework Unit. The Team prosecute and defend on both privately funded and on a legal aid basis.

EMPLOYMENT

Employment cases can be daunting, whether in the Employment Tribunal or in the High Court. Broadway House Chambers’ Employment Law Team has the in-depth experience, commercial knowledge and specialist skills your clients need so that they can achieve the best possible outcome.

Recommended by the Legal 500 UK for being “packed with talented counsel” (2022), our Employment Law Team features 12 barristers of every level of seniority including Queen’s Counsel. In the Employment Tribunals the Team’s work extends from unfair dismissal, wages and discrimination claims to highly technical disputes including whistleblowing, equal pay and TUPE. In the High Court the Team can offer first-class representation in litigation involving the enforcement of restrictive covenants, the protection of confidential information and injunction applications. Your client would also be able to draw upon our barristers’ experience in appeals up to and including the UK Supreme Court.

Our clients range from SMEs, multi-national companies and governmental bodies to individuals and group Claimants. Our dedicated Clerking Team will ensure that you and your client are provided with the best possible service, and with our barristers you can be reassured that your case is in safe hands no matter how complex it is.

Broadway House Chambers is known for its specialism in financial remedy and is a tier 1 set in the Legal 500 within this area; a position it has held for many years. The Team also have specialism in cross-over areas such as trust law, cases involving business, company and partnership disputes, and bankruptcy.

Our Team comprises well respected and experienced counsel specialising in children matters too, covering all aspects of private and public law but also cases with an international element, such as abduction and temporary and permanent removal from the jurisdiction applications, as well as forced marriage applications. Both our Public Law and Private Law Teams are well known for providing sensitive yet robust representation in complex cases. We have a strong relationship with solicitors in private practice as well as local authorities both locally and nationally.

The Team appear at every level across the Family Court, including the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Some of our members have had the benefit of working as solicitors prior to coming to the Bar, so have experience of working with lay clients outside of the court room setting. A growing number of the Team also hold judicial appointments, including as Deputy District Judges and Recorders. The Team also includes a full range of experienced specialists in ADR.
