Oliver Jones practises in all areas of chambers’ work, with a particular emphasis on commercial litigation and arbitration, administrative law and public international law (with a focus on State immunity). Oliver is a member of the Attorney General’s C Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown. Recent cases include: Bank PLC v Grant Thornton LLP [2015] EWHC 320 (Comm) – acting for Grant Thornton to obtain summary judgment against Barclays in relation to a claim of auditors’ negligence, Lee-Hirons v Secretary of State for Justice [2016] UKSC 46 – acting for the Secretary of State in relation to false imprisonment and Article 5 ECHR, Mid-East Sales v Pakistan [2014] EWHC 1457 (Comm) – acting for the claimant in a claim concerning Pakistan’s responsibility for its nuclear weapons development programme, Assuranceforeningen Gard Gjensidig v The International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund [2014] EWHC 3369 (Comm) – acting for an international organization to asset its jurisdictional immunity in a debt claim, Drax Power Limited & Infinis Energy Holdings Ltd v HM Treasury & HM Revenue and Customs [2016] EWHC 228 (Admin), acting for HM Treasury and HMRC in relation to a challenge to the removal of a renewable energy tax exemption worth £40 million/month, SerVaas Incorporated v Rafidain Bank & Republic of Iraq & ors [2012] 3 WLR 545– acting on behalf of the Republic of Iraq to resist an attempt to enforce a French judgment against Iraqi assets in London on the grounds of State immunity.
