Position

Victoria receives instructions on a wide range of family law matters and specialises in proceedings in relation to children. Victoria is noted for her sensitive approach to vulnerable clients and ability to manage difficult characters.  Clients have commended Victoria for her robust, problem-solving approach and valuable advice early on in cases, such as advising on experts, evidence and disclosure requirements.

Victoria is regularly instructed in cases involving:

  • Allegations of non-accidental injuries, including cases with conflicting medical evidence and management of rehabilitation plans;
  • Allegations of fabricated or induced illness;
  • Allegations of sexual abuse;
  • Allegations of radicalisation;
  • Forced marriage and forced marriage protection orders;
  • FGM and FGM protection orders;
  • Child sexual exploitation;
  • Cultural and religious concerns;
  • Vulnerable parties and parents with learning difficulties;
  • International elements, including where jurisdiction may be in issue and placement out of the jurisdiction.

Career

Victoria undertook a common law pupillage and has experience of all areas of family law.

She has significant experience of complex care proceedings, acting for local authorities, parents, connected persons and children’s guardians.

Victoria is experienced in the use of the inherent jurisdiction, including applications for contra mundum orders, injunctions and deprivation of liberty in care proceedings.

In private law children matters, Victoria acts in cases involving international issues, such as child abduction and leave to remove applications.  She is also instructed where there are serious allegations of domestic violence and abuse requiring fact finding hearings.

Victoria also delivers lectures, seminars and training for solicitors and other professionals on matters relation to children proceedings.

Coram Chambers continues to handle family and child law matters across all levels of the court system. Mark Twomey KC represented the local authority in the case Re S (A Child) and Re W (A Child) in the Court of Appeal, a case concerning the interaction between care orders and voluntary accommodation of children in need. Other key members of the team include Martha Cover, who regularly represents clients in serious injury and death cases, and Victoria Roberts, who handles domestic abuse cases and matters in which parental alienation is alleged.
