Position

A criminal defence barrister, who has developed a thriving practice in defending cases involving serious organised crime and white collar fraud. As his case load below demonstrates he has recently acted as leading counsel in cases involving terrorism, sophisticated fraud and people trafficking. Notable cases include: R v. Abdurahman [2008] EWCA Crim 2653 – involving those who gave logistical support to the London Tube train bomber, raising the issue of significant breaches of P.A.C.E. in circumstances where the police were faced with an ongoing serious threat to the community: Mr. Abdurahman had been interviewed as a witness by the police in the full knowledge that he should have been a suspect; R v. Thi Cam Van Vu – involving large scale commercial cannabis production in Norfolk and London as well as money laundering and mortgage fraud; R v. Mewaswala – Mr. Mewaswala was alleged to be the main organiser of a huge people trafficking operation on a trans-national scale from India to South Africa to the UK and to the United States; R v. Mullen [1999] 2 Cr. App.R.143 – Mr. Mullen was charged with conspiracy to blackmail along with two others, following a trial the jury were unable to reach a verdict, a retrial is scheduled for the end of 2009; R v. Gillies – Mr. Gillies was charged with conspiracy to defraud, creating a case involving involved a complex relationship between a series of companies who had contractual obligations with each other to develop a submarine base at the Davenport Docks.
