Position

Extensive experience as a leading junior defending in all areas of criminal work including homicide, serious fraud and corruption, drug trafficking, money-laundering and sexual offences. Notable cases include: R v Awan and others – led for the defence in a year-long multi-million pound diversion fraud, one of the London City Bond cases that resulted in the Butterfield Review of HM Customs and Excise; R v Bowers and others – led for the defence of the second in command of the ‘Peacock Gym Gang’ in a case involving conspiracies to remove containers from ports and steal a million pound cash consignment from Gatwick Airport; R v Buckley and others – led for the defence in a conspiracy to defraud banks and kidnapping; R v Bennett and others – led for the defence of one of the principals in the largest ‘crack’ cocaine production case yet uncovered in the UK, with linked conspirators in France, Holland, the Caribbean and North America; R v Kaplankiran and others – led for the defence in a case, involving the importation of many hundreds of kilos of heroin over a number of years by one of the key members of the Turkish mafia ‘supergrass’; R v Gellion – defended a West Midlands police officer accused of misconduct in public office by giving sensitive intelligence material to a criminal; R v Kreft and others – defended the sales director of the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in a large-scale conspiracy to defraud the hotel.
