Criminal Defence & Prosecution.

Career

Daisy commenced her pupillage in September 2020 and is currently supervised by Mike Newbold.

Since starting on her feet at the end of March, Daisy has been instructed to defend a wide range of clients, including youths, in the magistrates’ court. She has successfully opposed bad character applications, made successful s.78 PACE 1984 arguments and made detailed legal submissions opposing a Criminal Behaviour Order. Daisy has appeared in the Crown Court, including as a noting junior in 8-week murder trial at the Central Criminal Court. She has completed the Vulnerable Witness Training and is building her Prosecution practice, having recently been appointed to the CPS Grade 1 Panel.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Daisy worked as a paralegal at a criminal defence firm. She assisted a senior solicitor in the Crown Court department on a wide variety of cases including murder, serious violence, confiscation, fraud, fraudulent evasion of duty, drug offences, sexual offences and cases where the defence of modern slavery was raised. This gave her a valuable insight into preparing a case from the police investigation stage to appearances in court.

Outside of crime, Daisy has worked as a clerk for a family law firm on cases in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. She has also volunteered on pro bono projects including the Freedom Law Project which involved reviewing a historic murder case and preparing appeal documents for submission to the Criminal Cases Review Commission, the National Centre for Domestic Violence, and Legal Advice Clinics.
