Tim has considerable experience working in the chemical engineering sector, particularly in the oil and gas field. The technology ranges from the identification of prospects to the treatment of the extracted oil or gas and includes apparatus and methods for drilling, extraction, transportation, synthesis, distillation and post processing. Away from the oil and gas field he works on technologies as diverse as fizzy drinks and dietary supplements to the production of metallurgical grade silicon, bulk chemicals and concrete.

He is involved in all aspects of patent work from invention capture and patent drafting and prosecution before both the UK and European Patent Offices to enforcement of patents in the UK Courts and elsewhere. He advises on portfolio management and the development of an IP portfolio for public listings.

Tim regularly advises clients on issues of infringement and validity and is experienced in contentious proceedings at the European Patent Office, UKIPO and UK Courts. He can often be found acting for his clients in opposition and appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office with a high degree of success. He also has considerable experience in the management of multi-jurisdictional litigation.

In addition to his work in the patents field, he is also experienced in the protection of designs in the UK and overseas, in particular before the European Community Designs Office and the UKIPO.

Tim has been "recommended" in The Legal 500, 2014 and recognised as "knowledgeable" and "responsive."

Kristina Cornish leads the team and recently defended Janssen Pharmaceutica against a revocation by Sandoz and Hexal in relation to its HIV-related drug Prezista. Gwilym Roberts acted for Container Development in an opposition appeal pertaining to its new design for the top of a drinks can, which is more protective than on a standard drinks can. Tim Copsey and Jim Miller defended Keter Plastics against a revocation by an anonymous party in relation to its Easy Go Breeze bucket. Also recommended is Nick Lee, who represented Harvard College in its European patent for its gene editing technology CRISPR. Richard Howson worked with Ecotricity on its global patent protection strategy. Howson also worked alongside Robin Lloyd in assisting Reaction Engines with its UK patent grants regarding the pre-cooler of one of its rocket engines.
